Implant bridges
An implant bridge replaces several missing teeth in a row using two or more implants, with no need to involve your natural teeth. At Thorndon Dental in Wellington, it is our recommended solution when three or more adjacent teeth are missing.
How is an implant bridge different from a traditional bridge?
A traditional bridge is anchored to the natural teeth either side of the gap, which means grinding those teeth down to accept crowns. An implant bridge is carried entirely by implants placed in the jaw, so your remaining healthy teeth are left alone.
- Healthy teeth stay healthy. No neighbouring teeth are cut down for anchors.
- Bone preservation. The implants stimulate the jawbone under the missing teeth.
- Full chewing function. Eat what you like with a bridge that is fixed in place.
- Custom-made appearance. Matched to your natural teeth in shade and shape.
What does an implant bridge cost in Wellington?
Because case size varies, from a small two-implant bridge to a full arch, we quote each treatment individually. You will receive a written treatment plan with the complete cost at your consultation, before committing to anything. If your teeth were lost through an accident, ACC may contribute, and we will help with the claim.
Frequently asked questions
How many implants do I need for an implant bridge?
A common configuration is two implants supporting a three-tooth bridge, but the number depends on how many teeth are missing and your bone condition. Your written treatment plan will confirm exactly what your case needs.
Is an implant bridge better than a traditional bridge?
If you are missing several adjacent teeth, usually yes. An implant bridge avoids grinding down healthy teeth and preserves the jawbone beneath the gap, which a traditional bridge cannot do.
How long do implant bridges last?
The implants themselves can last for decades with good care. The bridge on top typically lasts 10 to 15 years before it may need renewing.
Can I replace all my teeth with implant bridges?
Yes. Full-arch solutions use a series of implants to support a complete row of teeth. For patients missing all teeth in a jaw, implant retained dentures are an alternative worth comparing.
What are the stages of treatment?
Consultation and planning with digital 3D scans and a written costing; implant placement under local anaesthetic; healing while the implants fuse with the bone; then fitting your custom bridge onto the implants.
Who will place my implant bridge?
Dr Parm Gill, accredited with the Australian Society of Implant Dentistry with over 12 years of implant experience, supported by our surgical team at the Tinakori Road practice.
